Lesson Plan SAMR
SAMR
During the lecture today, we were taken through the SAMR model. The SAMR model is a framework used in education to assess how deeply the technology is integrated into teaching and learning. Or it can also be defined as a planning tool that helps to design better learning activities. The SAMR stand for substitution, argumentation, modification and redefinition. In the following writing you will see a lesson plan integrating the SAMR model.
LESSON PLAN USING SAMR
Lesson no: 2
Subject: Science
Topic: Rotation of the Earth
Class: IV
Time: 50 minutes
Teaching materials: Power point, video on Earth spinning, playdough, toothpick, quiz
Previous knowledge: students already know the shape of the Earth.
Learning objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to
1. define the term rotation correctly in their own words without the help of teachers.
2. explain how Earth's rotation causes day and night accurately after the teachers demonstration
3. use a model to demonstrate Earth's rotation correctly without the help from their friends
Engagement
Show a video clip of a globe spinning.
After showing the video, ask the students what they observed in the video. Guide the discussion to identify the movement of the Earth(spinning on its axis).
Explore
Divide the students into pairs with playdough and toothpick. Students will model Earth by sticking the tooth pick through the playdough ball representing the axis. The pairs will be instructed to slowly rotate the ball while keeping the toothpick stationery. Encourage them to see what happens.
Explain
The teacher will show a PPT and explain how the Earth's rotation creates day and night.
Elaborate
Pose a question to the students so as to check their understanding. The questions will be such as:
1. "Imagine Earth didn't rotate". What do you think will happen?
2. How many rotations will the earth make in 24 hours?
3. What is the axis of the Earth?
Evaluation
Students will be doing a quiz.
